In a star topology, all nodes are connected to a central hub, switch, or router. All nodes connected to the central point expand outwards like spokes on a wheel. All data that travels through the star network must carry the address of the router and destination node. The star network is very common in homes.
Advantages: one node failure does not bring down the entire network, easy to troubleshoot, data travels faster because it goes through less nodes, privacy- each computer is only connected to the central point.
Disadvantages: dependency on the router, very expensive, network is only as good as its router.
