In a ring topology, all nodes are connected in one continuous loop. Data is passed from one node to the next, usually in a consistent direction. Adding new nodes to this type of network is easy. All you have to do is disconnect the ring, put the new node in, and then reconnect it again.
Advantages: one way data flow allows for high speeds and almost no collisions, adding new nodes does not affect the bandwidth
Disadvantages: lack of privacy because all computers share the data, one node breaking shuts down the whole network, difficult to troubleshoot, network shuts down when adding a new node, only as fast as its slowest node
